3/19   TH

All projects from now on are individual—there are no more group projects.

It's taking us some time to  get all of the materials together and uploaded, so we'll be working week by week for a while. There may be some changes to the syllabus as we go on—adjusted assignments, video lectures, some live classes on zoom—stay tuned and keep asking questions! The situation is "fluid" . . . ;- )

Due:

Nada

Individual: simple ground plan, sketch plot w/ color, cue sheet, and visual description of cues, for  Talk to Me Like the Rain . . .

Examples on class web site. You can draw theGP/plot and take a photo or scan it, ot do something on the computer—I just need it to be in a format I can open easily (Word, Pages, JPEG, PDF, etc.).

Email me your homework, in Word format, and take clear, full-fram photos or scan your drawings, to rchambers@suffolk.edu. The subject line of the email should read: "THETR359 Homework: Title of project/student(s) name/student ID#"

Week 10   T   3/24

Due:

Individual simple ground plan, sketch plot w/ color, cue sheet, and visual description of cues, for  Talk to Me Like the Rain . . .

Home:

Read the synopsis of Il Tabarro by Puccini first at the link on the main page.

Listen to/watch the opera. Here is a complete version on Youtube with a great cast and conductor at La Scalla (the set is a bit weird, though):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EBBcVIV1f4

If you only want to listen to audio while you read the libretto (which is what I do), here is a recording with a great cast (Robert Merrill, Mario del Monico, and Renata Tebaldi—holy crap!) and conductor w/out video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCcAOFy5-Cs

Follow along with the libretto. You should print the libretto so you can mark it up. It can be found in Italian and English here:

http://opera.stanford.edu/Puccini/IlTabarro/libretto_ie.html

Here is another video that has scenes from the version I would have played for you in class (It has scenes from other operas on it, too—you only need watch the ones from Il Tabarro.) The set is similar to the one in the mo1el we use for class and the lighting is fantastic.

4/2   TH

Due:

Individual Design Approach Statement for Il Tabarro

Email me your homework, in Word format, to rchambers@suffolk.edu. The subject line of the email should read: "THETR359 Homework: Title of project/student(s) name/student ID#"

Home:

Look at photos of the Suffolk model for the set at the links on the web site.

Make two drawings of the model of Il Tabarro in pencil on white drawing paper (If you have any Bristol Board left over from Intro. to Design, or can buy an 11"x14" pad of cold press/vellum finish, that would work best—copy paper will work, but not well.)

You can take GOOD QUALITY, EVENLY LIT, FULL FRAME photos of your drawings with your phones and email them to rchambers@suffolk.edu. The subject line of the email should read: "THETR359 Homework: Title of project/student(s) name/student ID#"
